Personal-Use Spirometer Now Available

PMD Healthcare Inc, Allentown, Pa, now offers the Spiro PD, a personal lung health monitoring device. Recently cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Spiro PD is personal spirometer that enables patients with lung diseases, including asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, and lung transplants, to monitor their lung function.

The device is designed for use by adults, adolescents, and young children. The Spiro PD is a single-patient device.

The Spiro PD allows patients to view their lung function trends over time, manage medications, set reminder alarms to take medicine, and do breathing exercises. All this data can be uploaded to the patient’s computer and shared with their physician.

The Spiro PD meets American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society standards. In addition to being cleared by the FDA for patient use in the United States, the device is also certified with the CE mark for the European Union market.

The Spiro PD is available online with a prescription.
